A Long Break from Blogging

What I have been up to:
Since baby Allison's birth, we have celebrated my son's 18th birthday.

And his graduation from high school (bittersweet)

A lovely well needed vacation to Hilton Head Island, S.C.

If you have never visited Hilton Head, I highly recommend it

There are so many fun activities

as well as miles of wide open beaches to walk and lots of natural treasures to discover.

But the most important thing I have been doing during my break from blogging has been focusing on my health, after all I am a nurse, wife and a mother and my health must be a priority.
You see this person in the black top, well that's me last fall at The Southern Blogger's Conference.

Cottage at the Crossroads

Since that time I have made multiple lifestyle changes, diet and exercise have become a intricate part of my everyday routine, and I'm happy to say those lifestyle changes have resulted in a 40 lb. weight reduction and a new outlook on life.

I have been a bit hesitate to blog about my lifestyle changes, but after much thought I think it's time to share, and
I hope that I can offer encouragement to others who wish to make such changes as well as share my recipes and workout routines here on A Southern Blossom.

Thank you all for continuing to follow me and visit my page during my absence and I look forward to sharing with you my  new lifestyle changes and of course we will always decorate.

Spring Time Wishes

Although Spring has officially arrived according to the calendar, however the cool temps still greet us daily here in the South!
I don't know how you feel about this never ending Winter season, but for me I'm ready for Spring!
So please join me as I attempt to create a Spring tablescape.

The yellow table runner and napkins remind me of the lovely Forsythia plant, one of the first plants to bloom in early Spring.

The black and white dishes feature birds and cherry blossoms, another sign of impending Spring.

Which I stacked on top of various chargers.

For the center piece I used an urn filled with a faux topiary and positioned a small nest along side, as everyone knows Springtime represents a time of rebirth.

Small bird place card holders are positioned above each place setting.

On the buffet I filled a rustic tray with a vase filled with what else….. Forsythia and a stack of cups, extra napkins and silverware.

This boxwood wreath was given a new bow and hung over the middle mirror above the buffet.

And finally here is a glimpse of the entry as I prepare the rest of the house for Spring!

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a lovely Easter holiday with your loved ones.

A Baby Shower

What could be more fun than a baby shower...
Recently, a friend and myself had the pleasure to hosting a baby shower for my sister-in-law's first baby.
The theme we chose was nesting and the invitation resembled this one:

Since baby Allison's due date is in the month of March we felt the color scheme should represent the colors of Springtime, lots of pinks and greens.

I was excited to be able to use this chalkboard to welcome our guest, especially since I have been working on it forever….lol!

We group several banquet tables together to hold all of our favorite recipes, thank you Pinterest!

We covered the tables with white tablecloths and green overlays, and used all white severing dishes.

All the while incorporating birds and nests…see the bird place card holders

and the birdbaths holding chocolate "It's a girl" coins.

The table decor included a pink taffeta party dress, a framed invitation and a pink and white wreath, to be used by the mom-to-be as the announcement of baby Allison's birth.

All the utensils were wrapped with a pink napkin and secured with the baby's monogram.
The basket holding the utensils was decorated with tulle and ribbon.

Water was served as well as punch.

The cake was created by Sandra's Cake Creations simple but very delicious as well as the mini Strawberry cupcakes.

The Chocolate Strawberry Hearts were a big hit as were the strawberry poundcake skewers

The mom-to-be's grandmother was honored with a candle.

The candy buffet was a huge hit, and all the candy was purchased from The Candy Warehouse. I must say that I was completely satisfied with their selection of candy and their shipping.

We also included a wishing tree into the decor. A sweet way for guest to write blessings for the new mom-to-be!

The tags for the wishing tree were hand stamped to include the nest theme and the eggs shaded pink.
And yes I see the table overlay is off center, now, but we only had 2 hours to setup, decorate and get ready for guests = mad house….

The day featured several baby shower games and the winners were treated with a bottle of OPI nail polish in, "It's a girl pink" as well as a jar of hand scrub.

The party favors were small boxes with a bird stamped on the top, a nest was created inside using pink Jordan Almonds for eggs, and finally a poem was included from baby Allison to the guest.

The mom-to-be was blessed with all the baby essentials including some really sweet stuffed animals.

Sorry for all the pictures, but there were so many details that went into the planning of this baby shower I felt the need to share them all.

Thanks for visiting,
